Low Country coil basketry is one of the oldest crafts of African origin in America and has been continuously practiced in the Charleston, South Carolina, Lowcountry since the 18th century. These baskets are collected by museums and art collectors worldwide, with each piece representing the culture, heritage, and history of the Gullah people.
