Early 1800s Handwoven Reversible Coverlet – Indigo & Cream – “Elizabeth KEELER” Signed Textile
Offered here is a genuine early 1800s handwoven coverlet measuring approximately 95” x 84”. This antique textile is fully reversible and was traditionally made for seasonal use—one side intended for winter warmth and the opposite lighter presentation for summer use.
One side features a bold indigo and cream woven geometric pattern, showcasing the skilled craftsmanship and design typical of early American weaving traditions. The reverse side is lighter in appearance and includes a woven inscription along the edge reading “Elizabeth KEELER”, which may indicate ownership and could potentially have been a wedding gift or family heirloom piece, adding meaningful historical interest.
This coverlet displays honest age and wear consistent with its early 19th-century origin. There is a small hole noted (please see photos) along with some discoloration on the cream areas. These imperfections are expected for a textile of this age and do not take away from its historical value or display presence.
